Now, when asked what I do for a leaving, I happily answer: „I am a Face Yoga Instructor”. And then I observe three types of reactions:
- First, most frequent, sincere astonishment: „Face joga?! What is it ?!”
- Second – confidence: „Wow! That’s a great thing!”
- Third – open laughing: „I do not believe in such things!”
So, how does face yoga work? Is it effective? If yes, what makes it effective?
- All Face Yoga exercises can be divided into two groups: first aimed at lifting facial muscles and second – at their relaxation. Facial muscles as well any other muscles of our body can be trained and sculptured. As a result of exercising our muscles gain elasticity and shape. At the same time they thus smooth the skin and reduce wrinkles. With age, facial muscles contract, which appears to be one of the wrinkles appearance reasons, because unlike the rest of our body muscles, on one end they are attached to bones and on the other – to skin, which provides the movability necessary for communicating emotions. There are also such muscles, which are attached to skin only! That is why with age, when these muscles contract, they pull the skin down into those annoying wrinkles. When we relax facial muscles, we prevent their contraction and thus wrinkles appearance.
- Owing to special deep breathing, which is practiced together with any face yoga exercises, blood circulation is improved and the skin gets more oxygen, which also means it gains better colour and shiny appearance.
- Mechanical manipulations during exercising stimulate production of collagen and elastin, that are so necessary for skin elasticity and youth. The more our skin has them, the better it looks.
- Face yoga teaches to consciously use the mimics of our face. A lot of wrinkles are created by ourselves, when we overuse some of the facial expressions. For example, we unnecessarily frown our forehead, when talking to somebody. Having learnt to control mimics consciously, we first reduce winkles and then make them merely visible.
- Relaxing the muscles we thus bring back our face to its normal natural expression. Simultaneously, our brain receives the signal telling that everything is good and we may relax. This is why face yoga also positively influences our general emotional state. The feelings of joy and content appear. Although, there is one risk here – addiction! Hormones of joy, which appear in our body during physical exercising, whether it is strange or not, create addiction. It becomes very difficult to stop practice face yoga. Though, taking into account all of its advantages, one is quite able to reconcile with that.
- When you see your face gaining a more youthful and attractive appearance only owing to your persistency, without botox, injections or chemicals, will your mood and self-esteem be able not to raise?
